Description

8th Grade Workshop- June 24-28, 2007

Workshop activities generally consist of hands-on engineering-related projects; tours of the general campus as well as engineering laboratories and facilities; discussions with engineering students and professionals who serve as role models and who may potentially become mentors; presentations from and disussions with counseling professionals on the importance of enrolling in the appropriate junior and senior high school courses in preparation for technical studies at the college level; and introductory 'Life-Planning' sessions, which cover topics such as goal-setting, values exploration and claricfication, along with time-management and study skills techniques.

Description Participants in the MITE program are high school juniors identified through the College Entrance Examination Board and selected on the basis of their PSAT scores, high school grades, and expressed fields of interest. The majority of the participants in this two-week program are residents of Indiana and surrounding states. This mix provides them with the unique opportunity to meet and interact with other students having similar interests and goals as they learn about engineering in the College of Engineering at Purdue University.

Description

Purdue's Recruitment Of Multi-Ethnic Students Interested in the Schools of Engineering (PROMISE) is targeted at talented juniors and seniors who are identified through a variety of sources. These sources include the Target Cities Luncheon, MEP's network of teachers, counselors and students, and applicants who were unable to attend the MEP pre-college summer programs.

The three day program provides information on admission and financial aid procedures, the freshman engineering curriculum, the cooperative education program and summer internship opportunities, and engineering student organizations. Other activities include a hands-on engineering project, visits to actual classes accompanied by Purdue students, a campus tour, social events, and the opportunity to meet practicing engineers, faculty, and staff.

GERI provides a limited number of partial scholarships to students from low-income families. These scholarships are distributed according to financial need and cover only part of the program cost. To be considered for financial aid, a student must submit a complete application, including the financial aid section, and meet program eligibility criteria. Students who meet the criteria will receive awards on a first-come, first-served basis. Applications for financial aid will not be considered before a complete application is submitted and program eligibility established.

Financial aid eligibility is based on the Federal free and reduced cost lunch criteria.
